Zygoma : Alternative to Bone Grafting
Have you ever been told that you don’t have sufficient bone for dental implants?
Zygoma or zygomatic implants may be the right solution for you!
Depending on the outcome of your diagnostic x-rays and CT scan, extra long dental implants may be offered to some patients where the amount of bone available in the upper jaw in insufficient.
These implants are called Zygomatic implants and are anchored into the cheek bone, providing an alternative to grafting procedures in the upper jaw. The procedure to insert Zygomatic implants is usually performed under general anaesthetic and placed by the MALO DENTAL Implant Surgeons. As per the All-on-4™ protocol, new teeth can be connected to them within anywhere from 1 to 3 days of surgery.
Should the upper jaw be very deficient in bone even in the anterior region, then double zygoma implants may have to be inserted into both sides of the available cheek bone to support an upper set of replacement teeth.
As with single zygoma this procedure is performed under general anaesthetic together with a specialist oral and maxillofacial surgeon. A full set of immediate teeth can be connected to the implants after 1-3 days.
